I Was Lost in France.........

.........Well, we were later!

We had a massive amount of rain last night.  It was lovely to listen to all nice and dry in the van, but I felt so sorry for the campers in the tents.

Elaine was feeling a bit better, so our plan was to go up to Grimentz high up in the mountains for a couple of days, but after checking out the weather forecast we soon changed our minds; it was an horrendous outlook, continuous rain for 7 days!!!

Next we checked the weather radar, which was also looking pretty grim so we set Mr TomTom on a heading towards the Spanish/South of France border and away we went.  We were running out of time and the suntan was fading fast ...

We set off from Interlaken along the lake in torrential rain, so I made it easy and followed the bendy bus.  He would force his way through the oncoming traffic and I would tag along behind him ...

Once again Tom Tom took us through some dodgy narrow back roads, not quite lost in France cos we were still in Switzerland!

We spent our remaining Francs putting some fuel in the van then crossed the border back into France near Geneva ...

We then stopped at the next French supermarket and did a big shop ... no point shopping in Switzerland as it's so expensive.

We sat in the supermarket carpark whilst Elaine rustled up some lunch from our newly bought goodies.

We had to laugh, there was a self service petrol station in the carpark area.  A very nice mini cooper pulled up at the pumps and a very young pretty well dressed girl got out and spent abut 10 mins trying to get fuel into her car - when she finally got it sorted and was finished her boyfriend got out of the car!  He was a Justin Bieber lookalike, what a wanker, she should have made him walk home.  In my day ... yada yada yada!

We were getting close to Annecy so we thought we would  go and check it out and we are really glad we did it was lovely ...

Its like a little Venice ...

The water was flowing incredibly fast, probably due to the heavy rain overflowing the lake ...

Canal side pose ...

What a spot ...

The sluice gates were open freeing up the water flow ...

The noise of the water disturbed little Sammie ...

Lots of interesting little streets to explore ...

Another great little find on the road trip of a lifetime ...

We were parked in a coach park which we thought could be a bit risky to stay the night, not getting robbed  etc but might get moved on by the cops.

We went to an official aires but it was full so Elaine go out the trusty auto route, and it came up trumps.  We found a fantastic spot on top of  a hill, overlooking the city. We arrived at at about 19.00 there was one motorhome, now there are 5.

We are being overlooked by a higher authority!

Where we stayed:

In the car park of Basilica de la Visitation, Annecy - follow link for more info.  Nice big open car park with great view down to Annecy.  It would be possible to walk down to the old town from there.  Rubbish bins around but nothing else.  There is an aire down in Annecy itself, which has a service point which we used the following morning but it is a busy spot so I guess you would have to get in early!
