Onto Interlaken

By the time we were up this morning the campsite was deserted, early risers these Swiss.

We headed off towards Grindelwald in overcast conditions ...

This time we were going over the Susten Pass ...

It was a lot quieter than the Gotthard, we virtually had the road to ourselves ...

You can see the road zig zagging below ...

Once at the top it was pretty clear and very cold, the top of the pass 2262m (7421ft) ...

There was even some snow still around, but hardly pristine, the dogs are well camouflaged ...

Off we go down the otherside ...

The views were superb ...

Magical, like driving through a post card!

We stopped at a nice little place for lunch, it was good to feel the heat from the sun again.  It's been a few days since we were hot ...

Nice view from the lunch table ...

By the time we reached Grindelwald the weather had well and truly changed.  It was raining too hard to go for an explore and also Elaine was feeling very rough, I reckon she caught a bug from swimming in that Italian lake for hours.

This is the best pic I took of the Eiger ...

This is what it should look like towering over the village!

We checked the discount camping book, and there was still a site near Interlaken doing a deal before the peak season, so we headed down there so Elaine could go to bed and rest.

We parked up and straight away a massive thunderstorm hit, which went on for about an hour.

I left Elaine in bed recuperating and took the doggies for a walk to the Lake.  It was very murky indeed, but still quite warm ...

The lake steamers are lovely looking boats ...

We will wait to see how Elaine feels tomorrow before making any decisions on where to head to next.

  1. Pity about the weather, hope it gets better, that pass is superb to drive, lots of trains to see round there if you have time, the train journey to Wengen and Kleine Schiedegg is just ace.
